Wholesale Business Development Manager

Job Summary


Develop and drive new sales growth within current accounts while sourcing, initiating and cultivating new revenue and producing relationships. Manage profitability, revenue growth, relationship health, brand activation, and overall account management to drive meaningful new customer touchpoints and channels of revenue for the GNC Brand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead new customer sourcing, engagement and development to drive lucrative new business partnerships and channels of revenue
  • Cultivate effective business relationships with strategic accounts to drive enhanced growth and profitability
  • Manage the end-to-end sales process for all opportunities including initial customer sourcing and communication, on-site presentations, assortment development, negotiation, and deal/contract execution. The candidate is the focal point for all communication, relationship and sales activities with new prospects and existing customers
  • Develop & cultivate a pipeline of growth opportunities, manage opportunity health, identify gaps/new target market opportunities, and execute strategies to meet Sales goals
  • Develop strategic sales plans that align with brand and category objectives by account and marketplace insights to achieve sales targets
  • Collaborate with key internal partners to define overall brand strategies and drive integration into productive channels of distribution
  • Develop curated and strategic assortments, new products and solutions to best service the target customers' needs
  • Manage reporting and forecasting with internal & external partners to ensure appropriate inventory management, ship rates and customer satisfaction
  • Perform all other duties as needed or required to maintain and grow profitable business within the assigned account base
  • Collaborate with marketing and retail activation partners to drive sell through programs and innovative initiatives
  • Travels regularly to meet with customers
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Specifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred
  • 8+ years progressive Marketing & Advertising experience required
  • 5+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect)
  • Prior managerial/supervisory experience
  • Field sales experience, preferably with key accounts within a consumer goods company in the sporting goods industry
  • Be an energetic self-starter and possess an excellent knowledge of the industry marketplace and business drivers
  • Thorough knowledge of key metric levers and how to use them to create increased profitability and sales for both GNC and its' retail partners.
  • Ability to lay out practical and logical assortment plans based on retail space, inventory turn, and sell through
  • Ability to portray a confident and winning attitude in challenging business interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence outcomes with both internal and external contacts
  • Proven background that reflects being results-oriented
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary
