Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer (Distribution Centers)

Job Summary

The Sr Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for analyzing, planning, coordinating, and executing projects and training efforts associated with the Continuous Improvement transformation and sustainment initiatives. This role develops and leads projects with new approaches and techniques or labor management in order to improve productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaches facility management on the implementation of lean initiatives and how to lead a culture change.
  • Plans utilization of facilities equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations.
  • Leads further development and deployment of tools and frameworks for all business segments.
  • Develop ROI for projects and ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Develops value stream data to identify areas of waste within the office and manufacturing processes.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arranges for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Design, recommend and lead implementation of state-of-the-art logistics, facility layout, setup, material handling and information systems that encompass distribution and transportation operations.
  • Provide engineering support across all business units within the organizational unit.
  • Acts as project leader, providing guidance, direction and support within the engineering team.
  • Monitor employee and department productivity and partner with Operations management to provide action plans to improve performance.
  • Act as liaison between operations and MIS in the implementation of newly designed or redesigned systems.
  • Partner with Operations to identify and develop best practices/ SOP's to improve efficiency and provide consistent output at the distribution center.
  • Develop operational plans on a daily, weekly and annual basis.
  • Conduct time studies, work measurement, engineering standards and data collections.
  • Effectively communicate and explain operating standards and SOPs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating SOPs for operation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


  • Responsible for supervising multiple projects.

  • Regularly/Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • Advanced degree in Industrial Engineering preferred
  • 8+ years progressive lean management experience required
  • 5+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect)
  • Periodic travel either locally or nationally may be required
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook, Auto CAD & Internet applications
  • Proficiency using pre-determined T.S.
  • Macro or VBA experience and SOL
  • Experience with labor management systems and WMS required
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
