Job Summary:

The Materials Procurement Manager is responsible for all aspects of the planning and purchasing of Raw Materials, Packaging Components and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) to acquire materials on time, at the lowest total cost and to meet working capital, internal control, and vendor/product specification requirements. The position is responsible for the management of material buyers, optimizing inventory levels and on-time delivery performance, lead time improvement, SupplyWeb Administration and automation of purchasing processes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

STRATEGIC

  • Constant pursuit of optimal strategic partnerships to maximize purchase value in conjunction with minimizing supply chain timing and maximizing transaction efficiencies
  • Maximize Purchase Value defined as achieving perfect product and supplier selection for total product cost in accordance with next best alternative for Lead Time, Cost, Quality, Transportation and all other purchasing aspect considerations
  • Minimizing Supply Chain Timing defined as the study and refining of the entire PO process from Initial Review of requirements, Improvements to PO ordering process, Specification and Documentation support and disbursement, Supplier confirmation and product lead times, Transportation of goods (Pickup request to Dock Delivery), Receiving, Sampling, and Testing and Approval (reduce testing requirements, define pre-shipment testing and increase Same As)
  • Maximizing Transaction Efficiencies defined as optimizing inventory turns and system inputs, safety stock, reducing Quality Testing and Quality Testing Rejections
  • Continual Improvement and Cohesiveness of Departmental associates through Education, Training and Leadership to expand Critical Thinking Capabilities, Cross-functionality, Job Knowledge and Predictive Analysis

TACTICAL

    • Insure Nutra Manufacturing’s compliance to supply agreements and contracts, pricing and terms for direct materials. The position also facilitates the procuring of new packaging components and suppliers and having components and suppliers qualified by Packaging Engineering, Technical Services, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing.
  • Responsible for optimizing inventory levels and on-time delivery performance, lead time improvement, SupplyWeb Administration and automation of purchasing processes

  • Conduct periodic and ongoing analyses to identify key direct materials, classify items via ABC analysis, identify candidates for safety stock, and identify appropriate purchasing parameters (days of supply, EOQ, etc.)
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of MAPICS capabilities for purchasing and material planning and optimize their use to create purchasing efficiencies and optimized material plans that lead to on-time delivery of customer orders and the highest manufacturing efficiencies possible
  • Measure and continuously improve supplier delivery performance, lead times, inventory levels, forecast information, number of deliveries and number of lots received and tested. Identify areas for service improvement and implement corrective actions as required with suppliers
  • Effectively purchase, negotiate and contract with suppliers for acquisition of MRO related general supplies/services, Capital Equipment and IT related Equipment/services. Procure direct materials at the lowest cost consistent with Nutra Manufacturing’s quality and delivery requirements
  • Maintain direct material inventories at optimal levels to achieve customer service and working capital investment objectives. Manage direct material purchases and inventory levels to minimize obsolescence
  • Supervise and manage purchasing personnel and functions required to support an effective purchasing process. Ensure that purchasing key controls and company financial and conflict of interest policies are followed. Promote and maintain good company relations with suppliers and internal departments and resolve vendor grievances and claims against suppliers
  • Resolve material quality issues in a timely manner to support smooth, uninterrupted production and on time delivery of customer orders. Develop and maintain programs for supplier CAPA (Corrective Action/Preventative Action) and OS&D (Over Short and Damaged) documentation, communication and resolution with Suppliers and manufacturing operations
  • Develop measurements and maintain a supplier performance system and provide input to Sourcing for the supplier evaluation and selection process. Identify areas for service improvement and implement corrective actions as required with suppliers
  • Administer SupplyWeb purchase order system and continue supplier implementation and use of SupplyWeb. Promote and maintain good company relations with suppliers and internal departments

Experience

Minimum

· 5-7 years experience in materials management including purchasing, planning, scheduling, and inventory management

· 3-5 years operational leadership experience in supply chain management operations

Preferred

· 7+ years experience in materials management including purchasing, planning, scheduling, and inventory management

· 5+ years operational leadership experience in supply chain management operations

· 2+ years experience utilizing Total Quality Management or Lean Six Sigma methods

Education

Minimum

· Four-year degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field

Preferred

· Advanced degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field

· Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM) or other industry training and/or certification

· Lean Six Sigma Certification (i.e. Green or Black Belt)

Qualifications

· Expert technical abilities in Microsoft Office tools to be able to design and build documents in MS Excel, Access Database, MS Word and MS Project

· Ability to use ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, BPCS, MAPICS or other systems to manage materials control, knowledge of AS400 software is highly desired

· Knowledge and experience with Infor SupplyWeb product is recommended

· Knowledge and use of ABC Analysis, Business Forecasting and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) methods and models

· Must have a solid background in Procurement and E-Procurement

· Knowledgeable of Total Quality Management systems (i.e. Lean Six Sigma methodologies)

· Strong negotiation skills

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills

· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

· Self motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision.

· Strong Attention to detail - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

· Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required sit while working with a computer for up to but not limited to 8 hours daily. The employee is occasionally required to lift boxes up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
