Job Summary

The Division Merchandise Manager (DMM)/ Director of Merchandising provides leadership and product direction to the Protein Food and Beverage Merchandising teams and is responsible for developing and executing a profitable, customer-focused merchandising strategy for North American corporate and franchise stores and GNC.com and all eCommerce affiliates. This leader will also influence international assortments and GNC wholesale and direct-to-customer business.

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Merchandising, Sports and leads an organization of merchant professionals. This leader works closely with the planning, marketing, product development, science, replenishment, finance, and store operations teams to significantly improve the sales, margin, profitability and maximize shareholder value.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and drives overall strategy and merchandise direction for the protein division across all channels, in-store and online, leveraging all customer touch-points effectively including digital
  • Full P&L responsibility across product categories and merchandise division performance; recommends revisions to the merchandise plan/forecast based on sound analysis and ensures corrective actions are implemented
  • Is customer-centric and uses the data effectively to develop customer-focused merchandising strategies
  • Manages team of merchants and drives performance and development of associates and team
  • Develops creative merchandising strategies that drive sales and margins across channels
  • Directs assortment selection process and reviews assortments for balance (brands, key items, core items, etc.) and adherence to strategic and financial objectives
  • Anticipates market trends and develops a plan for response
  • Works closely with product development and science teams to develop proprietary brands and products
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with his/her peer merchant teams
  • Prepare and present business plans to cross-functional teams, peers and executive leadership teams
  • Ability to develop deep understanding of category performance, perform category reviews and identify opportunities for growth
  • Establishes and maintains effective vendor relationships and works with team to strengthen market relationships and product and trend knowledge
  • Understands online and store retailing competitors strengths, weaknesses and strategies, and develops effective counter strategies and plan
  • Coaches and develops merchant team and ensuring growth and readiness for next level position
  • Drives compliance and standards with processes, policies and tools within the group
  • Partners with marketing, operations and customer experience teams to develop breakthrough and innovative programs and features
  • Reviews and approves the promotional plans

Job Specifications

Leads and develops team of Merchandising professionals

8 - 10 years related merchandising experience, 6 – 8 years with a mix of buying, planning and placement responsibilities

Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university; or four years related experience and/ or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
